Sovereign’s Entrance: Replica studs.
Whilst Eura is often engaged in macro conservation projects there are also times when ‘less is more’. The ornate doors leading from the Sovereign’s entrance gates to the inner courtyard had some of the briar rose shaped studs missing. Close inspection showed that there had been several slightly different versions over the years made from slightly different metals. The majority appear to have been cast in brass whilst a few appear to be partly copper. After discussion with the clients one of the studs was used as a pattern to make new pieces for the areas where they were missing. They were cast in brass, fettled and polished, then patinated to match the existing studs waxed to protect them and replaced.
